Solution

The tape libraries and drives documented in this article are approved for direct attachment to a Mirapoint appliance.

The M50 and certain RazorGate appliances do not have a SCSI connector, and cannot be directly connected to a tape drive or library. Low voltage differential (LVD) SCSI is supported in 4-Series and later hardware platforms other than 8-series platforms.

Tape devices are mix-and-match with the media changers (tape libraries). Any combination of tape and changer supported by the device manufacturer (except for the ADIC FastStor or Exabyte 17D) is approved for use with Mirapoint appliances, if both devices are found in the tables below.

To display a tape drive or autochanger's vendor, product, and revision, use the CLI Diag Tape Inquiry or Diag Changer Inquiry command. Do not use a tape or library device if it is NOT among those approved. The firmware revision has no effect.

On MOS 3.8.1 and later releases, any SCSI-compliant tape drive or library can be directly attached to the SCSI port on a Mirapoint appliance. If the device is not on the approved list, a warning is issued. On releases prior to 3.8.1, non-approved devices cannot be used.

Library devices used with NDMP should be used in random mode. Any device listed as working with NDMP, you must also confirm that the unit is supported by your NDMP DMA (client) vendor.

Any library device used with the administration protocol and CLI must be used in sequential mode.

1. Manufacturer discontinued the product.
2. Device works with the Mirapoint appliance but is no longer available to Mirapoint for testing.
3. Mirapoint has only tested and approved the model 3580, the Ultrium-2 version has not been approved.
4. There are known problems which do not prevent the use of the L40, but its use might require running the Diag Rescan command or rebooting the appliance to register the media changer (library).
5. Use the default media changer (library) identification. When these units are placed in sequential mode, they still respond to SCSI inquiry commands and some SCSI media changer commands. If the unit is not operating as you expect, use the vendor-supplied interfaces to check which mode the library is in (random or sequential).
6. Supported as of MOS 3.4.5.
7. Many library vendors are dropping support for this drive.
8. Supported as of MOS 3.10.4+ and 4.1.4+.
