Issue
How do Mirapoint appliances allow for sharing of information and data?
Solution
Mirapoint appliances allow the administrator to create shared mailboxes that can be viewed by any IMAP user. These mailboxes can receive email, creating an easy to use system for sharing files and information. In addition, users can create sub-mailboxes (or sub-folders) within their inbox, share those sub-folders, and receive email destined for the sub-folder by sending mail to username+subfolder@hostname.
Folders are shared through access control lists (ACLs). ACLs specify the permissions that various users have on the mailbox. The permissions are:
- Read - The user can see that the folder exists, open the folder, read messages in the folder, copy messages from the folder, and see which messages were read.
- Write - The user can copy messages into the folder and modify state information for the folder, such as \Flagged, \Seen, \Answered, \Deleted, and \Draft flags for each message. The user has permission to delete the folder itself.
- Mail - The user can submit messages to the SMTP service for delivery to the folder.
- Administration - The user can change the ACL on the folder and create sub-folders.
