What is Outlook Sync
IceWarp Outlook Sync is an add-in to the Outlook. It helps to combine the IceWarp and Outlook possibilities to elevate the user experience. With Outlook Sync you can bind the IceWarp account to Outlook profile and synchronize not only your emails but also calendars, contacts, notes, and other groupware under the Outlook interface.
Note: To be able to install Outlook Sync, you need to have administrator's rights. |
- Run the Outlook Sync installer wizard and select a language. The language that you see as a default choice is detected based on your language preferences from the local Windows settings. Click Next to continue.
- Select Installation type:
-
If on your Windows system, there is only your account, select Current user only (you).
-
If you are not the only user of this computer and all users need Outlook Sync, select For all users. In this case, Outlook Sync will appear as the add-in to Outlook for all Windows accounts. Even if you log in with a different account, you will still be able to see Outlook Sync add-in in Outlook.
-
- In order to complete the installation of Outlook Sync, you need the following software packages:
- Visual Studio Tools for Office 4.0 (choose 32bit or 64bit depending on your Microsoft Outlook version)
- Primary Interop Assemblies 2010 for Microsoft Outlook 2016 and later
- If some of them are missing, the Outlook Sync installer wizard will install the packages automatically.
- SmartDiscover helps to retrieve necessary settings from the server and use them to connect the Outlook profile with the IceWarp account that is ready to work immediately. Enter your login credentials, profile name and check Create profile.
- If SmartDiscover service is not properly configured on the server, the installer fallbacks to the manual configuration where you need to fill in all required properties.
- For manual configurations, fill in the profile properties: profile name, email address, display name
- Next you need to configure incoming and outgoing servers.
- Enter username, password, hostname and ports. Select type of connection.
- Unsecured line is not recommended since it does not encrypt any data.
- Start TLS ensures that your communication is safely encrypted. Start TLS connects to a regular IMAP port 143 and performs STARTTLS command to initiate a secure connection. If you want to use an encrypted connection even if there are only standard ports available and port 993 is blocked, select Start TLS and use port 143.
- SSL also ensures safety of your communication, however it requires a secured port, by default it is 993.
Note: The Next button stays inactive until you click Test settings to check the connection with the incoming server.
- The outgoing server is a mail server for sending messages. The configuration is similar to the incoming server, except for the port. If the Use same as incoming checkbox is checked, all configurations from the incoming server will be applied. The connection type and port are configured by default.
- Enter username, password, hostname and ports. Select type of connection.
After finishing the installation, you can start Outlook. If you have created a new profile during installation, select it from the dropdown and check Set as default profile checkbox.
Outlook Sync will automatically synchronize all items from your IceWarp account: mails, contacts, events, notes, journal or tasks. Content of Inbox and Contacts is always synchronized in full. The content of other folders will be synchronized only when you click them.
